The Ghillie Dhu
2 Rutland Place, Edinburgh
For some time now the Ghillie Dhu at the West End of Edinburgh’s Princes Street has been developing an excellent reputation for both traditional Scottish ceilidhs and contemporary live music. Featuring outstanding and wonderfully atmospheric Victoriania Gothic decor throughout and particularly in the main auditorium, the setting is also ideal for that special event or important family occasion.
Very popular with the after work crowd, the bar can get a little busy during early evenings. The ‘snugs’ are excellent for groups if you can book one in advance. Band nights and when the rugby is on are also very busy times but friendly and good natured with it.
Purely by chance and good fortune I have recently discovered the Ghillie Dhu is also a surprisingly nice place to relax and enjoy a quiet late breakfast in peace – The Scrambled Eggs on Toast is highly recommended.
