A: The Imaginarium is a “Steampunk Dickens” style story, told in images that have been printed on aluminium. It is a 3 year project that will include over 150 images, culminating in a limited edition Fine Art book.‘The Imaginarium’ is a fantastical tale, entirely conceived and developed within Gary Nicholl’s imagination and transformed into a major work of art. All images are taken by Gary, no stock images are used. It combines Steampunk fashion with worldwide locations.
The first of its kind, the story celebrates the redemption of one woman’s journey from ruination to salvation and consists of 150 multi-layered and mind-blowing images each portraying a story within a story and ending with an epic final images. The plot twists and turns in true Dickens style.
“The final image will be an epic steampunk legion battle scene, with the armies lined-up ready to do battle, incorporating steampunks from all over the World. It is designed to fire up the imagination.
Q: How did you get started on your creative journey?
A: I visited The Asylum – Lincoln Steampunk Festival and knew I had a theme for my story. I met Julie Walton (creative genius behind the costumes) and in turn her husband Peter (creative genius behind the props. The cast started with 6 members, we now have 28 and the story has developed.
Q: What are the next steps on that journey?
A: Keep creating the images! and promoting the project
Q: Where do you hope the journey will take you?
A: Who knows! Hopefully raising the profile of everyone involved and allowing me to pursue my dreams

A: By visiting the Festival and meeting wonderful people. Steampunk allows me to be creative with my imagination
Q:What do you think the future of Steampunk is?
As long as it stays the polite, well mannered genre it is now, I don’t mind where it goes!
Q:What question should you be asked and what is your answer?
A: People say that you come up with these ideas because you smoke Skittles, is that true?
No, I have no idea where the ideas come from, they are sparked by sight and sound….. an amazing room, gadget or song lyrics… I really have no idea, but I do not smoke!
