Birthrite are from the Black Country, and do hard edged Steampunk. Steampunk offers diversity, vintage style and non-conformity. We splice this up with energy and electric guitars. A lively Berlin-style cabaret based in Truro, UK with vocals, piano. accordion, kazoo & duck-caller! Dani & Donaldo have been working on and gigging as Berlin Cabaret show since November 2010 and have played to varied audiences in Cornwall performing sexy, sultry and fun songs from the 1920s-1950s, plus contemporary numbers which fit in with this genre.
Donaldo is an established pianist, composer and arranger, with years of experience of playing in bands, clubs and restaurants, plus previous work as a music director in the theatre and in television. He trained at Trinity College of Music in London, and holds an honours degree in music – Danielle is probably best described as a presence!
In the spirit of elegant eccentricity, sadistic strangeness, quintessential quirkiness, genre-blending/genre-bending ingenuity, fanatical iconoclasm, darkly inclined silliness (and a light sprinkle of pre-meditated pretentiousness), the maniacal musical cavalcade known as CIRQUE NOIR have maliciously and deliciously manifested a genre which can ONLY be described as “a severe aerial bombardment of whimsical song-and-music acts laced with profane and a tad insane!”
The Copperfield Ensemble Project

Feline & Strange
Literally mind-boggling Singer Feline Lang and her alien cabaret: Powerful variety from kitsch to art, rage to party. Well known as opera and tango singer, she sings her own songs in a uniquely souly style. The theatrical pop of the Berlin based 2- to 5 piece (vocs with piano, cello, computer, bass, and percussion, optional drums, and brass) brings to mind 60ies spy stories and Science Fiction movies remixed, or vintage revues. And: Feline’s burning voice and fiery performance in ball gown and circus corset. Collateral damage included.

The Gaslight Troubadours
The Gaslight Troubadours are Professor Singleton Purblind and Lon Lippincott; a modern day Burke and Hare of sample reconstruction. They cite their influences as scratchy old cylinder recordings, risqué Music Hall, 221b Baker Street, old radio show thrillers and Hammer Horror. The resulting mix would make Ed Wood proud. It’s ‘Carry On Screaming’ starring Vivian Stanshall, with a dose of The League Of Gentlemen thrown in for good measure. Mock horror with glitchy beats could be one, slightly loose description.
The sound of Ghostfire blends rock, folk, spaghetti western and shanty with widescreen, technicolour atmospherics. The lyrics document tales of doomed, forgotten wretches who litter the grim passages of English history. Recently described as “like a folky Nine Inch Nails”, GurdyBird combines a number of instruments, from virtual synths and drum machines to zither and her beloved hybrid symphonie hurdy-gurdy in her recordings. She is based in the South West of Cornwall and composes her own pieces and puts her folktronic-medieval-industrial stamp on covers of traditional tunes. She had her first full on stage performance in May 2014 at the Exeter Phoenix. GurdyBird’s sound contains many layers, and she is very much inspired by the darker aspects of history, folklore and a certain motion picture that was filmed close by! She is also often found unplugged and let loose in events and festivals. GurdyBird’s physical EP, “Different Ships, Different Long Splices” is due to be released during 2014.

Miss Von Trapp

Noone can be entirely sure when or where she was originally unearthed but she’s here now to revolt and entertain. She’ll have you singing campfire singalong grisly folk songs, ghoulish rewrites of cabaret numb…ers, music hall songs traditional and her own and the odd bit of darkly humorous poetry thrown in for good measure.
Miss Von Trapp, besides playing the cello, is a trained singer with a strong mezzo soprano range and a professional actor with an extensive background in physical theatre, experimental cabaret and also TIE and community theatre. She’s also not bad on the kazoo and children’s percussion instruments…

Less steampunk and more “SteamPUNK”, the British four piece mix Anarchy and Anachrony in equal measure. Expect a robot Sid Vicious covering Slayer in an 1877 East End Music Hall: a murky mix of Doctor Who, Doctor Watson and Doctored History. Not for the faint hearted or those of a delicate disposition.
